Upgrade to HTTPS and get closer to Google’s optimum ranking signals.

We understand that running a business requires an investment of time and money that leaves little room for much else, as a result digital marketing can often be forgotten about. It requires a good deal of effort to keep up with the latest internet technologies and developments, especially if they don’t seem to matter.

If you’re interested in your ranking, here’s a new development that matters to you…

What is HTTPS? :

Visibly, it presents itself as the “s” at the end of the “http” part of a URL, this indicates the website is secure. It tells your browser that the website accepts connections through a secure protocol, thus traffic is encrypted. To enable “https” an SSL certificate is required.

A website using an SSL certificate (HTTPS) can secure your customer’s connections in the following way:

  • Authenticate: Increases trust and protects against potential attacks
  • Encryption: Gives protection against data breaches and ensures users have a level of privacy
  • Data Integrity: Chances of file corruption during transfer are reduced

Why bother with HTTPs? – How to claim your free* SSL certificate

In 2014, Google confirmed websites with HTTPS are favoured over those just using HTTP.

That’s not all:

In 2015, Google alleged a site using HTTPS would act as a tie breaker for 2 equal sites. This means a competitor who ranks equally to you in every other ranking signal (speed, content, tags) would be favoured if they were using HTTPS and you were not.

Brian Dean has confirmed that, “HTTPS had a reasonably strong correlation with first page Google rankings. This wasn’t surprising as Google has confirmed HTTPS as a ranking signal.” Others (like Neil Patel) state that there is a minor to moderate correlation between the use of HTTPS and ranking.

We always recommend that E commerce stores carry a Comodo SSL certificate as website dealing with customer payment data need to be as secure as possible. However the price for a premium certificate (renewed annually) can be off-putting for smaller sites or those who don’t deal with payment data.

Here’s the deal:

We’re now offering a HTTPS upgrade service (incl. an annual maintenance fee) that caters to small business owners and non-E commerce sites. The certificate itself is free (via Lets Encrypt) however there is a small fee for installation and continued maintenance.

I still don’t see how this will affect me? I’ll change later…

Don’t just take our word for it, here are Google confirming how your site will look in the world’s most popular search engine and browser.

…don’t wait to get started moving to HTTPS. HTTPS is easier and cheaper than ever before, and enables both the best performance the web offers and powerful new features that are too sensitive for HTTP.

Act now, claim your free* certificate…
